In fulfillment of Alvin Ailey’s belief that “dance is for everybody,” AileyDance Kids residencies give young people across the tri-state area the opportunity to explore their creative potential and further develop life-skills such as teamwork and self-discipline. AileyDance Kids serves grades PreK-12, with a variety of dance activities and residency options to support programs to meet the arts in education needs and goals of schools and community organizations.

CUNY Creative Arts Team

 

ABOUT

Founded in 1974, Creative Arts Team (CAT) uses theatre and interactive drama as a catalyst to actively address social and academic issues, foster creativity, and critically engage with the world. Pre-K through college students, as well as parents and educators, in schools, after-school programs, college campuses, and community-based organizations participate in interactive workshops and residencies fostering the development of vital social and academic skills. CAT’s programs build community and address healthy relationships and violence prevention, life and leadership skills, arts learning, and college/job readiness, while bolstering academic and social literacy.

Dancing Classrooms

 

ABOUT

For nearly 30 years Dancing Classrooms has partnered with schools and communities to bring the joy of social dance to young people around the world. Our culturally responsive programs develop Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills like motivation, perseverance, connection and listening to develop empathetic global citizens. School principals, teachers and families have witnessed the elevated self-esteem, shared experience and engagement of each Dancing Classrooms student that propels enhanced performance in- and out-of-school in the following semesters. Even in a virtual and socially-distanced world, our programs uplift students and contribute to their success in the classroom and beyond.

ABOUT

Pentacle (DanceWorks, Inc.) is a not-for-profit management support organization for the performing arts, established in 1976. Our Education & Outreach mission is to facilitate a broad understanding of both performance and nonprofit career possibilities for youth. The In-School Program instructs youth in dance while inspiring them to explore a range of careers in the arts. Art disciplines currently offered include slam poetry, theater, hip hop, Indian dance, Chinese dance, Afro-Cuban dance, and more! The Career Development programs give high school students, college students, and graduates work experience, mentorship, professional development seminars, and a peer network of colleagues.

Magic Box Productions is an award-winning nonprofit that provides exemplary media arts workshops that help students bridge the digital divide. We provide rich experiences for all ages, especially younger and beginning language learners, and are well known for our dedication to customizing each residency for the needs of participating schools. Magic Box teaching artists come into the classroom to help students create photography, video, animation, audio, and web-based projects while building critical 21st century skills. The heart of our vision is to develop visual and digital literacy from a crucial early age. Through our residencies, students gain skills in technology, problem solving and teamwork.

The Joyce Theater

One of the only theaters built by dancers for dance, The Joyce Theater has garnered a well-deserved international reputation for cultivating and honoring emerging and established dance artists whose work represents a wide range of aesthetic interests. Since opening in 1982, The Joyce has supported the dance community by providing a home for more than 400 domestic and international companies. The Joyce becomes an extension of the classroom by collaborating with educators and highly qualified teaching artists dedicated to fostering an understanding of dance, dance aesthetics, and encouraging the imagination through inquiry and experiential learning.

Museum of Arts and Design

The Museum of Arts and Design champions artists, designers, and artisans, presenting contemporary art and design through a craft lens. Bring your students to the MAD for an interactive MADLab program for K-12 students. Our thematic school tours include a discussion-based gallery tour and hands-on art making with our professional Artist Educators. MADLabs are offered onsite and virtually and are free for Title 1 schools.
